One of the earliest printed traces of a Black Cinderella.
Before this image appeared on sheet‑music covers, Black communities already had their own versions of the Cinderella story — passed through folktales, church circles, and oral tradition. When publishers began mass‑producing imagery in the early 1900s, they reduced those wide community stories into a single commercial picture. This print is one of the rare survivors of that era.
And the gap that followed is telling: We didn’t see a Black Cinderella in mainstream mass production again until Brandy’s 1997 Disney film — nearly a century later.
This design highlights that history. The simplified illustration shows how our stories were reshaped for print, yet still carry the echo of the original versions created within our community.
A restored vintage image that preserves an early glimpse of a Black Cinderella — long before the world was ready to see her again.
